It was a 'celestial wedding' at Madurai's Meenakshi Sundareswarar temple on Tuesday, as Goddess Meenakshi wed Lord Sundareswarar.
The wedding, traditionally a part of the chitra (summer) festival, drew nearly 50, 000 devotees, who distributed prasadam and mangalsutras. A feast was also organised, with the help of many devotees.
The ceremony was also broadcast live on the temple's official website.
According to legend, the wedding is held after Goddess Meenakshi takes over from Lord Sundareswarar as the ruler of Madurai.
